New Haven County

H. & C.T. Smith (publishers), MAP OF NEW HAVEN COUNTY CONNECTICUT. Philadelphia, 1856.
Lithograph on six sheets joined, 54.25"h x 53.5"w plus margins, original wash color. Backed with original linen and mounted on rollers.

A lovely and imposing map of New Haven County showing town boundaries, topographical features including areas of elevation and waterways, and the layout of streets and railways. The large scale enables the map to indicate individual dwellings and the names of landowners. The visual appeal and informational value are enhanced by dozens of inset plans of area cities and towns as well as 12 pictorial vignettes including businesses, residences, Yale College, and other landmarks.

H. & C.T. Smith also published similar maps of Hartford and Middlesex Counties, Connecticut.

Stephenson, Land Ownership Maps, #65; Thompson, Maps of Connecticut, #154.

Usual cracking and a bit of flaking with a couple of very small areas of loss. Some staining at top and bottom. Top reinforced on verso. Withal, about very good for this type of map.
